Denpasar is the capital city and main hub of the Indonesian province of Bali, in the southern part of the island. Laid-back Sanur Beach on the east coast offers sunrise views. The nearby Pura Blanjong Temple contains a stone pillar with a 10th-century inscription. The Bali Museum displays a large collection of Balinese cultural artifacts, including traditional costumes and religious items.
Denpasar may at first seem ill-adapted for tourism as it is the capital city and the centre of Bali’s economy, but actually Denpasar is home to several historical, multi-cultural, traditional and religious gems. There are museums and monuments from the Dutch colonial period and from even more recent years, while temples will surprise you with their allure. Denpasar’s many public facilities hold various public events, whether it’s a big annual happening like the Bali Arts Festival or just a weekly soccer school practice. Have a walk around its two large green squares, although you should be extra careful when crossing the streets as the traffic can get very busy.
Denpasar attractions are a blend of rustic and urbane features. You won’t see any skyscrapers in this provincial capital of Bali. Throughout the Denpasar area you will see modern and traditional establishments in coexistence and attractions in Denpasar abound through wide open areas and along busy streets. Many structures such as heroic figure monuments and intersections reflect the commemoration of the people's struggle against colonisation, as well as to highlight artistic and cultural atrributes. Start your trip from the heart of the city as a lot of these places are just a stroll away from one another.
