Pratt
& Whitney, the worlds
leading aircraft engine
manufacturer, hosted several
of its clients and partner
companies at this year’s
Formula One Grand Prix of
Canada. This race was the
sixth in a series of seventeen
to determine the World Driver’s
Championship as well as
the World Constructor’s
title. Teams from Ferrari,

cutting
edge, purpose-built race cars
on demanding road courses all
over the world, including exotic
locales such as Monaco, Bahrain,
China, and Malaysia. These cars
reach speeds of 200 MPH on the
straight-aways and are still able
to maneuver through tricky, tight
turns and corners.
This year’s Canadian Grand
Prix drew hundreds of thousands
of fans to Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve
to witness one of the most exciting
races of the young season, with
many yellow flag sessions to slow
the cars after an on-track incident,
as well as a spectacular crash
of the BMW-Sauber car of Robert
Kubica at the hairpin turn. Coincidentally,
the excellent seats provided by
Pratt & Whitney allowed an
unobstructed view of this horrifying
crash. Fortunately for Kubica,
and as testament to the engineered
safety of the modern F1 car, he
was relatively unscathed and will
race again this season. The race
was historically significant due
to the pole to pole victory by
McLaren’s driver sensation
Lewis Hamilton who became the
first rookie ever to win a Grand
Prix race. He currently leads
the driver’s standings ahead
of teammate and reigning World
Champion Fernando Alonso.
The three day event was enjoyed
by all and our thanks go out to
the P&W reps that made it
all happen! |
