Glossary of Aircraft-related terms

Why should I own an aircraft?

Your company spends hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to charter aircraft. You are a corporate executive who needs to travel regularly, but on your own schedule. You are looking for a long term investment, earning revenue from chartering the aircraft. Whatever the reason, your foremost concern is probably the company finances and the ability to justify the expense of owning and operating a business jet. Utilizing the services of a professional management company is a sure safeguard against making a misinformed and expensive mistake.

What type of aircraft best suits my needs?

Like most modes of transportation, aircraft come in many different sizes, speeds, non-stop ranges, and levels of luxury. Consumers in the aircraft market need to perform a thorough analysis of their actual needs before a decision can be made as to which type aircraft best meets your needs. Without careful consideration and professional assistance, a buyer may spend too much on something they don't need or spend too little and not be able to meet their company's needs. In the 25 years that Executive Fliteways has been in business, we have purchased numerous aircraft on the behalf of management clients. There are many pitfalls that may be encountered in the course of selecting and purchasing an aircraft. Our expertise will guide you around these pitfalls and enable you to purchase the perfect aircraft according to your needs.

Should I hire a pilot to manage my aircraft?

If you needed open heart surgery you wouldn't have a hospital administrator perform the operation nor would you ask the heart surgeon to manage the hospital. The same holds true for aviation. To be a successful pilot requires many varied skills not all of which lend themselves to the efficient management of a multi-million dollar asset. Executive Fliteways, an established aircraft management company, employs the specialized personnel required to expertly and efficiently manage your aircraft.

What do I do once I own an aircraft?

Some aircraft owners want their aircraft used exclusively for their personal and/or business travel. Some aircraft owners allow the aircraft to be chartered out to generate revenue to offset some of the aircraft operating expenses. In such cases, Executive Fliteways will certify the aircraft for commercial charter operations and, with your permission, organize such charters to generate a significant amount of revenue that helps defray the cost of ownership. We provide the aircraft owner with a monthly management report and operational cost analysis.

Where can I find a maintenance crew?

Executive Fliteways employs a full time staff of 15 maintenance technicians and managers to provide both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for a fleet of 14 aircraft. We provide each aircraft owner with an accounting of all maintenance performed on their aircraft Each month.

Where can I find a flight crew?

We believe that the most important safety item on your aircraft is a well trained flight crew. Though having a flight crew with experience on a particular make and model of aircraft is preferable, it is more important that the flight crew exhibit the proper attitude towards safety, standard operating procedures and customer service. A pilot with these attributes can be trained to expertly operate any aircraft. To be eligible for employment at Executive Fliteways, a pilot must first meet our minimum standards for flight time and experience. Prior to a job offer, the pilot recruit must consent to a thorough criminal and financial background check and undergo pre-employment drug testing. Their personal history is scrutinized by the Transportation Security Administration and each previous employer is contacted to verify dates of employment, job responsibilities and to determine if the pilot is eligible for re-hire. The end result is that we are able to provide an aircraft owner with a proven commodity; the most important safety item in the aircraft.

Where can I keep the aircraft?

Parking the aircraft in a hangar is an expensive yet necessary cost. Protecting your multi-million dollar investment in a safe and secure hangar is very important. Additionally, maintenance costs are kept to a minimum when the aircraft is protected from extreme weather conditions. Executive Fliteways maintains three hangars at its base at MacArthur airport to ensure the safety and security of our owners' aircraft.

There are obvious benefits from using an aircraft management company, but how much will all of that service cost?

The old maxim "you get what you pay for" is equally true in aviation. The seamless, efficient and professional operation of your aircraft is not inexpensive. However, a good management company will save you many times over the cost of the management fees charged. Should you wish to operate the aircraft commercially, it is possible in many cases to cover the majority of costs including your personal flying.
